Stones can be dropped from any monsters, but you cannot drop a lvl 80 stone from a lvl 5 monster. If you want for example to drop a Lv24 Stone you have to kill level 25-35 monsters. The attributes of dropped Stones are always random. Also stones can be obtained from decomposing items. Every 8 levels (up to 80?) stones will have better attributes and another look.

Embed a Stone

Stones that provide bonus attributes can be embedded into equipment with one or more sockets.

You can perforate an equipment that has no socket initially. To embed a stone, hold down Shift, and drag and drop the stone to the target equipment.
