no matter how perfect the game is ,there will be some cheaters in the game .here is some ways to help you say goodbye to the cheater.
1.if you'v got a super item, you want to trade it with other players,the cheaters  maybe give you 10,000 gold instead of 100,000 gold.it will be a great loss to you.so what you need to do is to look at the number carefully.
2.the cheater's name is very like one of your friends'.he may imitate your friend to ask for your account or some golds from you.if you mistake him for your friend ,you'll suffer a great loss.
3.if you are a male in the game ,the cheater maybe will creat a female character,and pretend to be your wife in the game,or share his account with you.once they are unhappy,the cheat will take away your account without any hesitation.
4.the cheat maybe will give you some links,saying that there is some attractive items there .once you belive them and enter the links provided by them,then you will catch  pc virus,and all your personal information will be sealed by them.
here is some of my personal experience,if you have other ideas ,pls don't  hesitate to share with us.just remenber ,your advice can help thousands players.

The only advice that I can give is be alert there is always someone out there ready to scam you out of gear and gold., Have come across many scams in this game yet to discover anyone on my server that as been scammed by anyone that as married them and taken there account from them.
Solution to this is dont give your account details to anyone, if you do go to mwo website.

In the account section click Password Management-Retrieve Password-write in your user name then click next, you can then claim your account back with a new password.
No outside  links are ever needed to get any item in game and should be reported the GM's
